ASUS Announces ROG SWIFT PG278Q Premium Gaming Monitor

Does anyone who owns this monitor experience any of the problems shown in this thread?

Not me. The only issues I have had have been with refresh rates. Sometimes 144 Hz goes missing (max refresh 120 Hz) and sometimes 60 Hz gives "out of range" error. Sometimes G-Sync is missing. Seems to be an Nvidia driver issue as it only happens on Windows (I run OSX on the same PC), hopefully fixed soon.

So Ryan in that PCPer video review said AUG 26th........... 2 more weeks!

Get a bigger desk and Use a 1080P for everything else but gaming :) I'm going to wait and see if they release a 24" one if not I might get this.
Or for the price to go down a bit but I doubt it's going too.

I agree. 108.8 ppi default is perfect. Even my 17" 1080p laptop at 130ppi is good. If you have trouble with those you must have trouble reading regular print in books, newspapers, and magazines.

Same size as every other 27" 1440p out there. Personally I find that size an resolution to work perfectly together for the windows desktop.

for the right PPI/DPI I would buy this resolution on maybe 32 inch which would give 91 PPI

90 ppi is my max limit
or 0.28 dot pitch

newer monitors seem with pixels too squashed in.

luckily for me I have no reason to buy a 4k screen, I cant tell the difference between 720 and 1080p never mind 4k.

That is a blessing to your wallet that i wish i could have.

In any matter, i don't think i'll be picking this up, 27 inch is just too damn small for me to spend more than 400 bucks on. Waiting for something like the new Benq 32 to drop with a high refresh rate before i jump in. I'm content.

Holy crap... I just saw the instant power on/off in the video. That's something I truly hate about every monitor I have ever seen/owned.

I'm putting it on my buy list

Will be curious once more people here get their hands on some what the verdict on picture quality is. I have a VG248QE and can never go back to 60hz, but the washed out colors and terrible contrast/blacks annoy the hell out of me. If it appears that the Swift has significantly better PQ than the VG248QE I will have no choice but to drop the 8 bills for one

lol @ Linus comparing the PG278Q to the wide gamut PA279Q which suffers from the same severe overshoot ghosting as the U2713H, which even shows up when scrolling text slowly/the anti-<insert deity> to most gamers.

lol @ 1000$ after tax price in Canada (880$+ tax from NCIX)

I miss watching 3D movies and playing 3D games, but when 3D is enabled, the matte coatings these TN's use is even more obvious, to the point where I would classify it as a screen door inducing, and will be further amplified by the higher pixel pitch (think U2711). I'd be interested in a glossy version if they dropped the garbage frame-less casing (glossy frame-less IPS & zoomed in) and used proper casing since the inner black bezel makes blacks look grayish by comparison. Eizo's new FS2434 uses a frame-less IPS panel (and probably a grainy matte coating like the other 22-24" frame-less IPS) compared to the semi-glossy FS2333 which has proper casing...gaming monitors are taking a few steps back this year, I don't understand.

Frameless bezels not something that I particularly like the look off. However i'll reserve judgement until I have seen the thing in action. What this monitor offers on paper looks too good to ignore just because of that.

Just ordered mine from NCIX; $880, toss in taxes and shipping and it totals $944.98. Ouch!

It isn't in stock yet of course but here's hoping I'm early enough to be in on their first wave.

Two moar weeks!?!

Have nVidia sorted the downclocking out on the desktop at 144hz?

Edit: Read this seems to be working fine for some people.

Honestly, now that I see the pricing in CAD, $1016~ after taxes, I'll probably have to wait this one out. Either for a price drop or for a competitor (there used to be rumours about one from BenQ but they've all but disappeared) to release a product and create competition to at least somewhat lower the prices.

Very nice product but it's definitely a cost prohibitive luxury.

I've never had this issue with my VG278HE running at 144Hz on the desktop. Both of my cards always sit idle at that refresh rate on the desktop. They only come out of idle if I have more than one display plugged in regardless if I'm using it or not.

It downclocks on 144hz only for people with one monitor plugged in.

I actually asked about it a while back on blurbusters. You can read about it here.

Doubt NVIDIA is going to fix it:

This is by design when running dual monitors and one of the monitor is running at 144Hz. This change was made a few driver versions ago to prevent a display glitch when driving at such high frequencies with dual monitors. As you stated, it only affects the graphics card if running in dual monitors where one of the monitors is running at 144hz

II am using powerstrip to change between 121hz/144hz on my VG278HE. All fullscreen games force highest refresh rate as well.

I'd rather run my displays at their max hz even on desktop. 120hz would be ok though if it downclocked to 120 I guess.
You can't really overclock your gpu using g-sync anyway it seems so extreme heat shouldn't be an issue in either case. I doubt it would heat up as much as gaming would and many people game for hours on end. Playing rpgs, mobas, and rts's especially but of course mmo players can live on the game for a day at a time in some cases too lol. If your card can be at those gaming stress levels of usage and temps all the time then why can't your desktop?

People who can drop $600 on 1 or 2 video cards without wincing are probably the types who can spend close to a grand for a fast 27" LCD.

I wince but I can swing it. i've put monitors, a TV, a laptop and even a nice sectional couch on no interest for 12month deals at different times over the years and just paid them off. when I was starting out struggling to pay rent and keep a car on the road my toy budget would be a lot different. That said, people put a lot of money into other interests like sport equipment and sporting events , cars, vacationing, home and garden, home theatre, etc.. Those along with any of the multitude of money sink interests you can find in thousands of magazines and Web sites, and perhaps other vices like booze, cigarettes, etc. Another point might be whether or not you have kids and/or divorce fall-out .. I hear those are expensive. It's not always how much you make but where you put it and where your passions lie.

For me, I haven't upgraded my display since the end of 2011, and I decided to not buy into this console Gen at all. I kept my VA TV and didn't buy into 3d TV let alone 4k. I haven't had a car payment for years, riding out my truck(which is still in great shape even though it was paid off after 2009) rather than getting a new one. I also dropped cable TV some time ago. I tend to focus my pc upgrades around Xmas and tax return time too.

I'm definitely looking at purchasing this monitor when it comes available. I told my wife about it and she totally thinks I'm crazy for wanting to purchase a monitor at this price.

She proceeded to tell me I need to start hanging out with more pc gamers so that I can at least share my enthusiasm with people that get what I'm talking about. That's part of the reason I joined this forum. Shout out to the UP (Upper Peninsula) if anybody is out there!

i use the mythical divide by 2 formula when talking prices for PC components with the wife haha

Yet @ASUSUSA references a two-week old article on Anandtech where the title says September but the article contents say August. Must be somebody a new tweeter (?).... who the hell knows though.

I'll volunteer to row the fucking boat if it gets it here sooner.

If the Benq XL2720G comes to market first (it is supposed to beginning of sept) then Asus will loose some sales for sure.
