Nope, hasn’t been made since 2012. They stopped manufacturing it so they could fully commit their resources to the mass production vehicles (the Model S and the then-in-development X).

Development of a new Roadster was announced at the Tesla Semi event, and a prototype was demonstrated, but production hasn’t started yet, and the new Roadster is currently only available for reservation.
The point is, they've made one ... and you can reserve it ... and people have driven it.

It's not a phantom.

Funny, its been a running joke for the past year+ in electric/performance car circles that the new Tesla Roadster is very far away (years) from production.

Even Elon mentioned it here https://www.motortrend.com/news/tesla-roadster-delayed-elon-musk-interview/

Theyre busy making other high-volume cars and small and big trucks, while still being a relatively small company.

I’ll be surprised if the 2017 roadster ever hits production. I’m sure they will do some sort of roadster 2 door in the future, but I don’t see them investing more R&D or production space in their already maxed out factories to build an niche supercar that is low volume right now. Investing time and money to create a $250,000 supercar during a recession is a questionable idea even by Elon Musk standards.

Edit: that new roadster concept is sex on wheels though. As a car guy I’d like to be wrong on this, but I don’t see it being produced anytime soon.

The supercar market is hot now, I think the recession is affecting the sales of the Model 3 and X more than it would a new Roadster...but that's besides the point. The bigger problem would be hitting that 1.9 second 0-60 time, while also hitting 250mph....Sounds like that would need the dang two-speed transmission that Tesla has been trying to get, er, 14 years ago when they were developing the first Roadster....or an entirely new motor technology. It would also likely need some warmed up racing slicks.

Who orders the car at 18k? Just add in a radio, no cd or mp3 or even a touchscreen, just a knob and dial radio and the car price increases like 3000 dollars. Add in a backup camera, another 2000 dollars. 18k is not realistic in the least bit. Oh god get premium wheels and a trim package.... 10k right there. How about a fancy new grill badge that looks cool... 700 dollars. Need a cigarette lighter adaptor instead of naked 12v power socket.... 150 bucks lol

They call them stealerships for a reason

When I was in high school in the 90s, you could get a brand new Ford Escort for like 9,000 bones
Lots of people buy base model cars to get the core feature set. True, you aren't getting the $18k one but a LOT are buying the $24k one, still almost $15k cheaper than the aforementioned Model 3. Suburu gets people into their cars for the AWD-on-the-cheap, as a relative did a couple years back. I will say when I got in it I was surprised at things it *didn't* have, but then I saw the sticker price and remembered it was a brand new car. Stupid move but, you know, you can't pick family.......I go for the "2nd owner depreciation buy bonanza" deals myself...

The base level cars are going to be the ones that are more reliable and require less costly repairs because luxury cars you get into tiny features that your average mechanic won't touch. Problem with the transmission? Your local guy can help you with that. But the motor that rolls up the shade for your panoramic sunroof or *anything* having to do with an integrated electronics package in the dash? They just point you to the dealer.

If they add an option to how the dating experience was, will your Tesla try to off you if it doesn't like the review? Might explain some the nasty acceleration issues seen on videos.

The tires don't matter as much when you use rockets.

For wealth... or for debt? (hey, people's taste varies, you could have a thing for people in debt)
For wealth of course. You cannot get approve for $100,000 model X if you dont have high income. I have a friend who works at Target and just got his Model 3 (He's a Cashier but with really high credit score...I think its 820)

But... we all know "there are ways". (sad, but true)
