1950x will be $250 or less, used, by the time 16-core zen 2 comes out.

insane value...... but then again so is zen 2.

Must resist, I want the 7nm TR4 next year.. At this point even the lowest end 7nm TR4.

You could do like I did with AM4 ... I got an asus crosshair vi hero x370 AM4 board on a Microcenter deal and it just got ryzen 3000 support via BIOS update. I also dug up a $80 Ryzen 1600 here recently for it after I sold my 1800x

You could just find a really good TR4 board (with good VRM's), dig up a used 1950x or 1920x and wait for 7nm TR4 support for it.... this may well be a gamble, but AMD is good about supporting older chipsets.

edit: I also don't care about pci-e 4.0 as I don't need 234123423452384706345897230489572345872659827356238756293857263045726305982375019835710783426957826395782364958723645897236508934750138456234987562384756203948572308945723045 mbps nvme RAID

I've had this in mind for a while. I use a 4790k as my gaming and "whatever" PC and an FX 8320 @ 4.4ghz as my development machine. 3700x should be a fine replacement for the 4790k, used 1950x to replace the 8320 will be a dream come true. I'll OC that sucker to 4.2~ghz and watch renders and compile times drop by an exponent..

Ahhh it's gonna be a good year in the ole computer room

I'd have bought another 1950x and used that for Plex hosting duty. Although I am into some of that 12,000 passmark 65w tdp goodness. Yum. So, I suppose we'll see what opportunity arrives.

the 1920x is still a good deal at $250 IMO..... it is, in fact, 12 cores.... the closest performing AMD CPU in that price bracket is an 8-core 12nm part

Yes it is. However, I already have a Threadripper 2920X so that wouldn't do me any good.

They weren't in stock at the Dallas and Plano locations when this was first posted.

This this this. I'm not in the same situation as you financially right now because of getting laid off and seemingly being unable to get back up but I remember building my secondary PC last year and it was nothing like this. I would have been having so much fun with these prices.
