Multitasking under gaming with the 7950x - all cores still available and run.

There has been some confusion on how the scheduler works for the 7950x3d and some review(ers) using the term "parked" to describe the non-gaming utilized cores. This is leading some to believe that these other cores are not available. Here below we see the cpu multitasking tomb raider and running cinebench simutanously. Full utilization all cores.

Windows Resource Monitor showing that you can indeed access all of the cores of a Ryzen 9 7950X3D while Cinebench R23 is running using 16-threads, Google Chrome is running WebXPRT 4 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider is being played in the foreground.

To be clear, the cores are "parked" and will say so, in task manager.

Its people who don't know what core parking means, that are creating the confusion.

My only question about the parked cores is how much unparking them while gaming affects performance.

The fact is - until we got these chips in our hands no one knew (except AMD and MS) exactly how the scheduler, game processes, other processes (and parking) would work. I don't think anyone wanted to assume that parked cores will get extra non-gaming procs and unpark cores until we saw it for ourselves. To come in late after the new 3dx scheduler knowledge is out there and declaring "you just don't understand parking" smacks of condescension.

It's a brand new addition to the scheduling system and it's nice to see it working the way it does.

Core parking has been a staple feature in Windows, for years.

People who do not understand it, were apparently thinking those cores once parked, are comepletely unavailable to anything.

And I have also seen some say that you have to restart, to unpark them.

Worst is some random tech channels releasing articles like the 7950X3D is a scam and it's only 8 cores bla bla. It used to be the case that reviews used to check for accuracy for their sake and reputation. Now a decent chunk of them are just incorrect data worded a certain way to create clicks.
7950X3D multitasking is fine, and random anomalies will be fixed through scheduler updates and stuff. Not unlike 12th gen which got fixed just fine.

I think the restarting stems from the early Zen 1 threadrippers which needed to. Only the WX models though IIRC. But obviously without even testing the new chips people are quick to jump to conclusions. Pathetic

it was introduced with WX but the TR 3k series had it has well for to disable the 2 extra CCD's for gaming since windows scheduler didn't know how to handle all the cores properly.
