AMD has announced a new product lineup of AMD Radeon Vega Mobile graphics as options for high performance premium notebooks like the 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro starting in late November. AMD Radeon Pro Vega 20 and Radeon Pro Vega 16 graphics will feature the 14nm FinFET process and HBM2. These graphics solutions are highly scalable, efficient, and designed for emerging workloads like rendering, editing, and gaming.

Powered by the leading-edge "Vega" architecture, Radeon Pro Vega 20 and Radeon Pro Vega 16 graphics are the ultimate premium graphics solution available today. Optimized geometry engine intelligently balances and distributes complex workloads, efficiently handling geometry-intensive tasks with ease. That all depends on how "tuned" they are in regards to voltages, always has, always will, Vega is no exception to this "rule" I know V56/64 voltage tuned draw a fraction of the same power as "stock" produce much less heat as well...if these are mobile based, then likely AMD took the time to tune them much much better than they did for the desktop grade stuff, hell even the Vega APU in 2200/2400g are quite good power use (reasonable heat) considering this.

So many people forget that outside a small percentage of the market aka 1080Ti/2080/Ti, AMD is competitive.

Does anyone else have a brain that automatically puts the 'n' on the end of 'Vega'? What kind of dyslexia corrects words so they fit your worldview?

In any case, if those graphics cards went out and had a steak, or maybe just a nasty Wendy's triple, they could probably hit those benchmarks they want.

I was wondering if the newest drivers supported your notebook. Glancing at the driver notes it seems that it does support some notebooks now, but I don't own an AMD notebook to test.
 
I just tried the other night and the installer still can't identify the R 5 2500u. In fact when I forced installed through device manager I started getting application blocked from your graphic hardware messages. I also lately get a random lockup occasionally not BSODs just nothing screen freezes only way to get back is a power down. You all tell me to go to OEM well they still only have the original Sept 2017 drivers. You say AMD does not have to support laptops even though both Nvidia and even Intel does. HP and AMD just don't care and yes I have emailed them they just ignore me... Understand my frustration here. Any of you out there got any real answers? If I knew this machine would get no support from oem or Amd I would never have bought it. Also have installed a 250 Nvme 16gb ram and a Micron 2TB ssd.lot of cash tied up here.. I'm at the point where I just don't want to use it anymore. Oh yes ran all the diags sfc etc. I'm pretty sure its a graphic driver issue..... I doubt I will ever recommend AMD for anyone and know I will never buy another HP or AMD product...

The freezes are probably the graphics driver crashing. Win10 has a new driver arch which allows them to recover from (some) driver crashes, but when it fails you don't always get the BSOD that you'd normally expect.

Personally, I'm not a fan of HP notebooks. If I was going to get one, it'd have to be one of their $800-1200 business notebooks, because they look pretty solid and probably get better support. That said, if I were you, I'd return that notebook if possible (or sell it) with all the original parts, and take the stuff you bought for that notebook and put it into another one. Just make sure you read up on whichever one you decide to get first so you know what you're in for.
 
I just ddu the amd driver and ran auto detect at AMDs sight could not even detect with only basic ms display only.. There is absolutely no native AMD support here. There is no excuse for this. Just a lazy ass chip maker I hope AMD fails as a company.....Ati should have stayed solo......
I won't be buying another HP. they have become junk. Asus Intel and Nvidia only from now on. My Asus I7 with 1060 laptop runs flawlessly. So does my I5 lenovo yoga 2 in one. I was looking for 2 in one with decent graphics this machine has just took up too much of my time.. You are probably right about the driver crashing as I thinks it happens right after i am testing with benchmarks and with the Vortx fan software might be causing issues........ I'll do some more testing then reboot and see if that helps...

Why don't you figure out which driver its supposed to be manually? If you find one & the installer fails, then use the extracted drivers & try installing via INF through Device Manager. True troubleshooting goes a long way. :pompous:
 
I have a Ryzen 7 laptop.

It runs Crysis, Far Cries, Skyrim, and any other older but then-advanced video games, and it only gets warm after a long session. Graphics often on high or very high but not ultimate.

And that's with 17.7 drivers. (Stupid proprietary Lenovo drivers.)

What they're doing now with mobile and even teaming up with Intel will give them brand recognition for a lot of new customers.

Get the driver from the company. AMD lets builders roll their own drivers.

P.S. if anyone knows how to get around this and use straight AMD drivers, I'm all ears.
 
I would hope discrete AMD Vega graphics would simply use the normal AMD driver stack. Hopefully. It does kind of suck on thier Raven Ridge products though. Newer drivers have to be force installed which can be hit or miss for some.
 
how can the word radeon ever be used next to high performance lol

at this point.. with amd cpu's doing so well.. they must be so ashamed of ati

amd should get some engineers over there to ati.. get their gpu up to par with ryzen.. and stop competeing with intel graphics chipsets lol

I already did all that.........
 
For mobile that chip takes up less space on the board vs nv's mobile solutions this means thinner and lighter designs can has its. my only disappointment is it is not 12nm but fully expect a 7nm wega chip to come to a future macbook refresh

Yup, had a HP laptop with an AMD GPU, same thing. I remember an instance when HP even released an updated driver my laptop but after installing it wouldn't recognize the driver and I couldn't use the windows driver roll back function. Had to use the recovery discs and start 100% from new, I also will not be buying another HP laptop.

If you have done all that then all you seem to be doing now is bashing and complaining, am I right? This is H, you are correct, and we try to fix things whenever possible. Also, just stay at the existing driver, you did not exactly buy a high end gaming laptop.

It isn't that anyone does not want to help you, but you already know the situation you are in. The OEMs are just like the phone makers...Let's use my phone (Pixel XL) vs my wifey's phone (Moto G5 Plus)...I bought my Pixel XL for full price, since I know I will keep it 2.5~3 years, and Google guarantees OS/patches for at least 3 years...My phone shipped with 7.X, and has gotten day 1 updates leading to the latest 9.xx.

Now onto my wifey's phone...She did not want to spend more then $200 outright, so I was tasked with finding the best deal. She wanted new, not used, so when Costco offered the G5 Plus unlocked for $179.99, it was a no brainer...Best phone for the money according to everyone out there for that price...It shipped with 7.1, and Moto had already promised an update to 8.1 (which was current at the time of purchase)...Well that purchase was 9 months ago,and she is still in 7.1 with outdated security patches...

Moto has FINALLY claimed to have released 8.1 to the US customers after a 5 month international soak test..And guess what? NOTHING. The phone will not update. Now, is Google to blame here? No, it is Moto's fault. I certainly wish Google would release it without me having to wipe the phone and do custom rom route etc.


I get this is not a perfect analogy, since Google does not have their own GPUs, but in a way the Pixel's are Google's "GPUs" and I get day 1 support.
 
Forgot to mention..Why don't you ping Lisa Su on Twitter? She went to Bestbuy and bought the same lappy you have when they were launched...Let her know the issue and how mad you are about it. Will it do anything? I do not know, but it's worth a shot vs just complaining about how bad HP is. I hate HP's notebooks. I used to have the same crap (taking Nvidia desktop drivers and manually getting the .INF file I needed to install for my mobile Nvidia part). So I get it. It sucks. If I were purchasing a notebook for any sort of gaming that needed day 1 drivers, it would be with a discrete GPU, no matter the maker.

This is my experience exactly with my Moto X Pure (which at one time, I believe was a flagship). My next sub $200 phone is going to be an iphone 6 most likely.
 
I'm really sorry just losing what cool I had. I just went and bought an I3 2 in 1 that can use the m2 the 2tb ssd and the 16gb of ram. I stripping the machine back to original 1tb HD and 8 GB of ram I will even reinstall the orignal drivers from HP..... Company CEO won't care anyway or there would already be drivers. At least Intel will have them I might play a casual game on this one. The Ryzen doesn't crash all the time I have run it for hours with no issues but then boom you know maybe if I don't try to run current drivers it would be more stable. I going to try selling it 300- 200 usd?

I have an IdeaPad 720S-13ARR

Drivers (under Windows) are not an issue. The thing only spins the fan when I decide to play a game. Not even when it's playing high-quality video, in the browser or otherwise. That's quite impressive for a machine this small that only weights 1.2kg.

Linux, however, is another story. Current APU drivers have a nasty bug that causes random freezes both on desktops and laptops.
 
Oh good, more mobile GPU's with zero driver support. Just what we need.

Its funny how AMD does release mobile driver updates but you can't actually install them as most OEM's require OEM specific driver installs.

Yeah, that's not AMD's fault, that's the OEM. Lenovo makes good hardware but they are slow to release driver updates. This is regardless of AMD or Intel, as I run both now.

Again, if anyone knows a workaround for Radeon drivers...

Not AMD's fault? They don't officially support these chips
 
They offer the software to Lenovo. Lenovo sits on it. Same with Intel.
