AMD President and CEO Dr. Lisa Su is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the upcoming CES 2019 event. In 2019 AMD is expected to release the world's first 7nm high-performance CPUs and GPUs. "During her CES keynote, Dr. Su and guests will provide a view into the diverse applications for new computing technologies ranging from solving some of the world's toughest challenges to the future of gaming, entertainment and virtual reality with the potential to redefine modern life." Dr, Lisa Su's speech will be the first CES keynote from AMD in show history.

In other news, Dr. Lisa Su has been inducted into the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). "Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer." Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."

"AMD is transforming the future of computing in our ever-expanding digital world and revolutionizing the $35 billion gaming industry," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA. "We look forward to Dr. Su's keynote as she paints a picture of the next-generation of computing that will help redefine the future of gaming and virtual entertainment."

PS 5? Vega 7nm for Instinct and 7nm Ryzens 2?/3? EPYC. Sounds like some surprises as well - what? Is anyone's guess. Will AMD have another Frontier Edition, a higher end Pro Card at a low price is to be seen.

guess we will find out soon enough.

Rumors flying around we might see a Polaris refresh before year is out on 12nm so at least some folks can do an upgrade that may not have "good enough" currently available. IMO if they are "better" it might put some downward pressure on RX 5xx models to get closer to price they should have been last year and change (most of RX 560-570-580s are ~$40-$80+ more then should be) at least here in Canada.......then again RX 570s for longest time were priced IDENTICAL (sometimes more) than 580s which made NO SENSE at all...but that is the sellers for you.

Maybe they should do 5 in the naming a bit more, example RX 565-575-585 type deal so at least there is some "notice" that they are just a refresh of current product (not a "new" generation when they are not such, like RX 400 to RX 500, silly silly)

hell they should have done this type of thing with the "cut down" versions as well...14CU vs 16CU, not good enough when the sellers not always say it outright and people buy, realize is not what it should be and have to pay $$$ to send it back, easily avoided (if they would do it more intelligently) certainly not charge MORE for a "slower" model (some AIB really are foolish).

Most people are "simple" time has proven, a 560 or a 565 "the 565 MUST be better" just like slapping an X on it seems to enforce the "premium" feel in most folks minds ^.^, what I do not appreciate is when they use the exact same "name" but cut it down and still expect same price (Nv often the worst offender in this regard) example a 1050 with X memory is certain spec 1050 with less memory is different spec..I HATE THAT...

Anyways, glad that they chose Dr Lisa Su to be the "host" show AMD some love, lord knows analysts/shortsellers are not doing so (even when they should be), they spread crud and glorify others when they should not be o_O

Rumors say Polaris 30 could come close or even surpass a GTX1080Ti, hopefully for lower price.

I really don't see that happening not even with new Vega, but if it can go head to head with a GTX1080 for less money, it would spell death for both GTX1080 and RTX2070

If they can come out with a more affordable card than Nvidia (with reasonable performance), I'd think they could gain some traction. Right now, Nvidia seems to be the only sheriff in town.

It’s good to see AMD doing well. I hope they can keep this up! AMD was in my first PC (which I still have out in the shed) and every system I’ve built since... I guess I’m sentimental.

My sky-high expectation is to exploit the huge gap between the 1060/RX580 and the 1070/Vega56. If AMD can slap something there for the same price as a normal 1060 (or less) then they'd have a real winner there.

SONY would never let her announce ps5. They usually are a day or two later in CES, and most think announcement unlikely. But you never know I guess.

That is true.

Basically, a $200 980 Ti from AMD....

(I got tired of waiting)

Why don’t you see even a new improved version of Vega coming near a 1080ti? Right now Vega 64 can trade blows with the 1080.

Are you expectations really for a 7nm Vega to preform the same as their current cards?

Congrats to Dr. Su and AMD. Hopefully they can keep the momentum going.

As for gaming cards ,
As mentioned by others the sweet spot is a killer 250-300 dollar gpu. The gtx 970/1060
hit it out of the park for a reason. Many drool over the higher end cards but most buy in the mid range. That’s where you can make some hay. Polaris is good but caught up to the 1060.

Now a halo card from AMD would obviously go a long way to win hearts and minds as well.

No, but rumors claim for polaris as early as next month, Vega/Navi in 2019.

Its pretty clear at this point that 7 nm Vega will be announced at 2019 CES. It will support the open source standard ray tracing. It also explains why Nvidia rushed the Ray Tracing out the door with 20.. series cards. Simply to lock in the developers to their standard.
