In the released line-up I noticed that after the 7950X and 7900X they drop down to the 7700X. I thought this puzzling as with the 5000 series we had no 5700X until very late and the same time roughly as the 5800X3D.
My crystal ball guess here in the 7800X slot will stay empty until AMD wants to release it as the 7800X3D exclusively when they feel the need to solidify it as the top gaming chip. My guess is 3D cache is difficult still beyond 8 cores or not economical.

As far as I know, there are no Official announcements.

the 1700X and 1800X launched together.
The 2700X was alone, without any 2800X
the 3700X and 3800X launched together.
The 5800X launched alone, the 5700X followed it later.

There's no precedent. AMD just does whatever.

When they make the wafers they are just making wafers- it's not like they are making a particular skew.

Binning is the issue here- they need a supply of wafers to meet demand at a certain performance point. It's about binning.

They will only release product lines they can actually supply.

I would love to see the 6-core become Ryzen 3 level. Even if the price is high (not like we've had modern Ryzen 3s available for purchase anyway). It makes total sense from a SKU perspective. Plus, AMD would be able to show people using Ryzen 3s leading MOST Intel i5s in benchmarks. In all honest I don't see why they don't other than stagnation.

6/12 = Ryzen 3
8/16 = Ryzen 5
12/24 = Ryzen 7
16/32 = Ryzen 9

instead of

????? = Ryzen 3
6/6 or 6/12 = Ryzen 5
8/16= Ryzen 7
12/24 or 16/32 = Ryzen 9

My only presedent is the last Gen. The 5700X was to hold the price/performance slot and the 5800X3D to offer an enthusiest part. I'll bet that the 7800X3D will be the first V-Cache chip released and the only 7800 version made.

I am most excited about the base clocks getting a bump to ~4.5ghz and the boost clocks RUMORED to be above 5.4ghz. My 5950x is currently at 4.7 all core, so the dream would be 5ghz all core or even 5.1 with a good chip.

And 6/6 is Duron. Bring it back! Forget Athlon, Athlon was the top tier when it first released. I would love to see the low end stuff marketed as Duron again.

I could put this in a lot of threads but this one's good:

4c/8t
16 Zen3+ graphics cores (8CU)

Basically Xbox Series S APUs in the works.
