Let those who said that BF2042 is the best or will be the best battlefield game of all time come forward now.

I haven't followed the news at all so far, now I'm reading that the game is rubbish and practically dead, supposedly thinking of giving it to people for free.
They only knew that there would be a war in Ukraine and in what ways it would be waged.

Battlefield 1 was still a good battlefield, V skipped it myself.
They have no choice but to go back to the beginnings and roots and throw out Battlefield Bad Company 3.But they have to give the game to people who know how to do the frostbite game.

Unfortunately DICE is so far up their own ass they can't see the light and listen to feedback. To a certain degree they should stick to making trailers, even the frostbite engine has it's major flaws and other devs can't use it properly.

Where are their people doing battlefield 1 for example? He turned out well...
In bf2042 they loaded everything to please everyone and in the end the game turned out to be rubbish that even the biggest fans don't play anymore.

This is what happens when the marketing department takes control of most upper management / executive positions. Everything is driven by consumer averages and chasing numbers. The result is nearly always the same. Complete shit, because the company no longer is focusing on what it was originally designed to do - Make a fun game.

When said company fails, the people responsible and the industry as a whole never seems to reconcile it was the marketing idiots that caused this, and rinse/repeat.

BF1 was the start of the end. BF5 and BF2042 are just a further developments of that. Crappy GUI, infantry based (okay, makes some sense in WWI), more based around cosmetics and the like.

I'd like to see other improvements but they should make BF4 on a modern engine. That should be the basis for the gameplay and it shouldn't stray far from it. They can add some other changes, like separating IFVs from APCs if they can balance and fit it into the game. Otherwise just use the BF4 gameplay as a template.

But then they couldn't sell the metaverse idea to consumers! How are they supposed to make money from microtransactions on that?

I think everyone has been dreaming of a modern BF2 for 15 years now. Personally, I'd like to see BF2143 just to have something different.

I’m dreaming of a game like Warhawk on the PS3 with modern conveniences and budget. That game was really fun (to me) and very easy play casually or for hours at a time with a small group.

BF2143 could be amazing though, this franchise always pulls at my hope strings 🤓

I just want a new BF4...

More or less same for me.

As for 2042, I haven't been able to get into games for a while. The last few posts where I could get into games was the last time I played it. Seems like the player base took another massive hit or something else is wrong.

After 7pm EST the PC game is fairly bot-free. As for rubber-banding, no such issues since one of the first patches. I just wish the playerbase understood Rush mode (was a featured portal mode last week) a tad better. Games were so lopsided, either you rolled over the opposition 5-6 games in a row, or you got your shit pounded back into you, as your attacking team thought sniping from the spawn was a great offensive strategy.

RIP my PKP though... oh well, I knew it was gonna happen sooner or later.
I think there was a chance they just walked away from this game and quit talking about it/working on it. It's unlikely I buy it at this point though... Maybe for $25...

2042 will probably be remembered alongside the likes of Daiktana as among the biggest failures in gaming history. Must suck to have been on the team that created this game. Not exactly a shining moment on one's resume.

I think your giving it too much credit Daiktana will go down in history.

Looks like there was a jump in players after the patch for a week or so and now it's back down under 2k peak concurrent on Steam. The new season of Apex releasing this week probably not helping matters. Game has to be considered dead now, what an embarrassment for DICE/EA.

Season 1 update finally coming tomorrow morning. Hundreds of changes, but people probably don't care anymore. Season 1 comes with a whole 1 new map, 2 new weapons, 1 new specialist, and 2 new helicopters.

Still no server browser, no decent map rotation, and now only 1 attack aircraft per team? And already lost 128 player Breakthrough, one of the things this game was marketed on. WTF. Their idea of fixing the game is to just remove content

The game just isn't fun. Like how do you patch fun into a game? I've lost hope.

128 player breakthrough was a clusterfuck. worst thing I've ever played.

agreed. Its not as much cutting content (While technically true, no denying it) the 128-person mode was beyond fucking stupid.

Hazard Zone was DOA. I hated those two particular modes as the 128 breakthrough was pure zerg-rushes and the Hazard Zone was not a Battlefield experience. Cut the dead wood away; is it valid content when nobody uses/wants it? It really doesn't matter, they're gonna get blasted in the media, no matter what. Dice is in full damage control mode and even though I have fun with the game, its going to go down as one of, if not the worst Battlefield games to ever get published.

I still feel a little pissed off pre-purchasing it due to peer-pressure, but, I've got enough of my money out of it.

True; but surely having made this a big premise of the game before it was released, and upon which lots of people bought it, they should have fixed it rather than just remove it....

Not surprised it was an unplayable cluster fuck. I'm pretty sure I've seen devs mention in the past that it's been tried internally and wasn't fun. I guess that was true. Battlefield just isn't really built for it in the same way, say, PlanetSide is.

Realistically, I'm assuming leadership at some point forced the point for one-upmanship and little else. Specialists were just because of hero shooter hotness, obviously.

How is there no server browser yet? I mean really?

Since BF5 it has become one of those promised features that will eventually show up. Whether it actually does is another story, but I stopped buying Battlefield until the browser was implemented. BF4 was my last.

Bf5 has a scoreboard. Always did. It's a decent game actually, just missed the hype train a bit. 2042 missed the hype train by a large magnitude. If they don't kill the series after this, the next one can't possibly be worse.
