    Phison E16 / Sabrent Rocket 4.0 Failures?

Pretty sure most Phison-based SSDs are just reference design PCBs with each company's branding and firmware slapped on top. Sabrent doesn't actually manufacture them last I checked.

    HP Aero 13.3" (400nits) with Ryzen 7 5800U (Zen 3), 16GBs, 512GB... $683

Did that last week after I got it back from one of HP's repair centers. Reset it and turned off a few settings that could allow for power draw while off. Still exhibits the same thing. C'est la vie.

    HP Aero 13.3" (400nits) with Ryzen 7 5800U (Zen 3), 16GBs, 512GB... $683

Absolutely. First thing I did when I received it was turn off hybrid sleep, fast startup, modern sleep, S3/S5, etc.

    HP Aero 13.3" (400nits) with Ryzen 7 5800U (Zen 3), 16GBs, 512GB... $683

It is. I have, unfortunately. It's as fun as you can imagine. Yep. No and no, since those typically cause the device to be in a higher-power state. Not the end of the world but figured it was worth mentioning.

    HP Aero 13.3" (400nits) with Ryzen 7 5800U (Zen 3), 16GBs, 512GB... $683

Unfortunately the motherboard on this uses about 2-3% of battery per 24 hours even when fully off, which is far higher than any other laptop I've seen. Small downside for decent laptop though.

For 100% stable system, should I get RAM w/ highest SPD frequency and ignore XMP?

Going by the QVL is your best bet, but just because a stick isn't listed on there doesn't mean it won't work or that it's not stable. Look at it more from a business perspective that ensures compatibility. There's no reason not to use XMP, but to answer your other question.. Yes, there are...

Why though.. Windows 11 "Shell Infrastructure Host" high CPU usage

Although it doesn't show it in the Command line field (presumably because Process Explorer isn't run as admin), we can tell by the Autostart Location field that the service that svchost.exe process ran is UserManager (same on my Windows 10 machine). At least there's nothing out of the ordinary...

Why though.. Windows 11 "Shell Infrastructure Host" high CPU usage

Perfect. Just need one more bit of info. By default Process Explorer sorts the process in a tree view, with every indentation being an nth level child process. With the columns sorted by CPU, however, that indentation disappears. In the screenshot you showed, the sihost.exe properties window...

Why though.. Windows 11 "Shell Infrastructure Host" high CPU usage

Is that what happened here? Normally the ignored users' posts are replaced with has something like "x posts from ignored users". But in this thread.. I only see 6 posts total, including this one. Can't even go to the post you quoted. Edit: situation explained - now let's see that Process...

Why though.. Windows 11 "Shell Infrastructure Host" high CPU usage

When its CPU usage is high, download and run Process Explorer, then find sihost.exe in the list that corresponds to the instance that has the high CPU usage. I presume there will only be one instance. If it has a parent process, such as svchost.exe, double click the parent and let us know what...

madVR black bar cropping for ultrawide not working the way I want it to

That's up to the video player and how you have it configured. If you use MPC-HC's equivalent of "touch window from inside", the player will scale the video up/down but only after madVR's cropping has already been applied, ensuring that no actual video content (post-black bar detection) is lost...

madVR black bar cropping for ultrawide not working the way I want it to

I think there's some misunderstanding of how madVR's black bar detection feature works. It dynamically removes black bars from the video stream by cropping them on frame-by-frame basis. With the feature enabled, videos that contain black bars will have the black bars removed. It doesn't remove...

madVR black bar cropping for ultrawide not working the way I want it to

Can't say for certain as I haven't seen that option. At least as far as I know, MPC-HC (and maybe MPC-BE?) has come bundled with LAV Filters for many years now, so I honestly would have expected you to see that what I saw, albeit perhaps in a different place. Since I'm curious, can you share a...

madVR black bar cropping for ultrawide not working the way I want it to

There are no black borders on the IMAX shots. The content of the video (16:9) matches the size of the container (16:9). I don't have a 21:9 display but with cropping enabled, simulating it by resizing my player causes IMAX shots to have no black bars on the top/bottom and the non-IMAX shots...
