EVGA 1080 TIs are listed for 629$. Ebay is selling...
I can't image how much it hurts for the 2080 TI users, but I have to agree. They will just have to eat the cost if they are thinking about upgrading to the 30 series. However, if they can wait, the 2080 TI still has plenty of life in it. Perhaps they can wait till the next generation.
