If there's one thing I've learned about waiting for that "dream" monitor, by the time it comes out you'll want something that can do 8k, 240hz, SHDR, etc etc :oldman:
Interesting, but price wise, you could just get a 4TB USB powered external drive that fits in your pocket for the same money.
Add another $50 and you can get an 8TB 3.5" external.
Its a sunken cost & effort unless you're putting in 4tb+ drives.
I think I'm just going to consolidate any data I...
Considering these boards will need to handle everything from 4 cores to 16, at a point power delivery is going to become an issue if you're overclocking the 16 core part on a mid-tier board.
We'll have to wait and see considering the 3950X is so far out, but it doesn't bode well, price wise...
That's a really good one!
I remember when we moved from where we had dial up and every minute online was counted and expensive and slow AF, forget downloading anything, to suddenly having always-on flat rate cable, it boggled my little mind. Leaving the internet "on" was like leaving the hot...
HTC Vive - Hands down, no other computer purchase ever blew my mind like that, if you can call VR an upgrade.
Before that though:
TNT2 M64 -> Geforce 3
15" 1024x768 LCD -> 20" 1600x1200 LCD
A64 3200+ -> Q6600
Spinny HDD -> SSD
2600k -> 3950x :p
That's kinda the worst case scenario I imagined, since few standard heat sinks worked properly on the threadripper.
Looks like neither my NH-D15 or my H115i will be much good here. Not the end of the world, just one more item on the shopping list. (y)
I was looking at the chiplet layout on the ryzen 3950x:
The off-center chiplets got me thinking about heat sink/cold plate orientation and design. Past single chip dies meant concentrated cooling effects in the middle, but with this layout, it looks like some formerly reliable coolers might...
That's really the one that gives me pause. Most development has been so intel-centric that AMD compatibility/performance edge cases are guaranteed to crop up.
Yeah, but I dare you to fire up notepad or solitaire, goodbye CPU! Bet you wish you'd waited for the 3950x, you could pause SOOOOO many...
A someone who's been waiting since the 2600k for a worthy upgrade, and slowly realizing that an overpriced intel chip is going to be my only option, this is the miracle I was hoping for.
I'm a sucker for whole numbers and hitting that 5.0, but when it comes to reliable clocks and acceptable...
Probably because not that many people use them in the grand scheme of things, and the ones that do are savvy enough to switch browsers for the option.
So they'd rather you block ads from their browser than from their competing browsers.
Also; Enjoy ad free youtube while you can.
More homes have VR now than ever before in history, I think that's a trend that will continue to grow. Now that you can get a kits for well for under $1k it's in the realm of the "consumer market".
To me it looks like a matter of display technology finally catching up and making home VR a...
Is there any source/proof of that, or is it conjecture?
Looked to me like the 20 series was priced the same price:performance value as the 10 series because no competition, and the 2080Ti was your only option at the top, so nvidia made a killing by jacking up prices.
Thanks for the ideas. It looks like the reality of sending high bandwidth video signals 40ft precludes any simple workarounds. But in the face of a $3k build, a few hundred bucks towards the necessary cables is pretty feasible.
I'm thinking of putting the PC somewhere in the middle, as far from...
Right now I have one rig in my office (multi-monitor setup with a DP 144hz primary display) and a second VR rig in the living room. This is only because I had enough spare parts to build a second capable machine.
I'm planning to do a new build soon and looking for ways to use the new machine...
