M5 supressed with close combat rounds is pretty nice. last round of the night we lost by 2 tickets. Seems like I'm getting more addicted. The rubber banding while flying was the worst I've seen tonight. Patch 3.1 is suppose to include big audio changes.

I don't like this game, yet I keep trying to give it a chance. Almost every time I do, I get the "waiting for players" issue. I can see other players typing so there are clearly some people waiting.

The last 5 times I've tried I've only gotten into a populated service once. At this point I really wish I could get a refund because I can't even play it if I want to.

You don't see the problem with a squad of elderly women running around, then an enemy looking identical to your 3 other elderly women runs in and shoots you all. As your glitching body is twitching on the ground, along with three other clones, you see another friendly elderly woman shoot the opponent elderly woman, and proceed to revive the elderly female teammates that aren't clipping into a wall. I mean what's to not enjoy about that? (And yes this scenario happened at least once a night as I fully embraced the sink cost fallacy and tried to get some enjoyment out of this joke of a game.)

Glitching bodies is bad but it has nothing to do with specialists. Elderly woman? Whatever if gameplay is good but it is apparently not.

TL: DW
Summary of 2042 development:

  • Developers started leaving during the release of BFV, as EA wanted to compete against other games (BRs and normal shooters) and their concepts internally never given a look at.
  • EA basically gave the memo of "copy what's popular".
  • Classes scrapped early 2020.
  • WFH with cross-gen was a massive pain with 5 different platforms with hardware being shared remotely.
  • Game shifted into a BF title April-August 2020 from the BR (so basically about 18 months of development time) with 128p & specialists.
  • The games original concept got shifted into Hazard Zone.
  • August 2020 is when production really got started and concepts got solidfied. So basically 1 year and 3 months of true production.
  • The leaked trailer (the epilepsy one) was basically early in production in early 2021 and show to QA in early 2021 in its finished form. Used BF3/BF4 assets.
  • "Ahead of scheudle" was a giant fib. Past & current DICE devs say it was based on baseless predictions.
  • In March 2021 DICE was overwhelmed and admitted they need help from others. But it wasn't easy again due to engine issues with lack of experience.#
  • Later on in the months it became obvious so many issues like UI where creeping up and causing many issues.
  • Technical test came and ofc was unstable and used Orbital as mentioned in the video was the concept map. And made clear the game was way behind schedule. And Tom was given indications then that BF 2042 was in a troubled state and stressed working environment (not due to crunch but more management issues etc).
  • Tom then got word that the beta & launch was going to be delayed but only a few hours later it was clear the delay was weeks and not months.
  • And ofc the last stretch where the beta was basically an alpha and the launch being a launch.
  • In summary vast majority of development issues was a massive lack of time, could've benefitted of an extra year or so in an era where delays of 3-6 months where common. And since so many people have left over development time the studio DICE is basically so different now it needs renaming to reflect reality.
  • Many projects where scrapped including a BC3 which EA thoguht wouldn't sell for some reason.
The future:

  • The next BF shooter is being scoped as a hero shooter.
  • Most interestingly it may be bands of specialists/heroes fighting against each other and not armies, even further away from BF 2042.
  • The "connected unvierse" is basically adding depth to the specialists.
  • A BR will come in the near future, not next 6 months but vague timeframe.
  • That said things have not absolutely set in stone and DICE developers have been hard at work trying to fix the game to be good as possible (though personally in my eyes the game has fundamental issues of the gameplay core that can't mesh well with say the maps, least that's my opinion) and listening to the community.

Nah bro, its just a bunch of haters irrationally hating on EA for no good reason. Polonyc2 should have already explained to all you malcontents and whiners that it is entirely reasonable for EA to sell broken dumpster fire games because they will eventually get patched into an acceptable state.

I like the game bit it's got issues.

Specialist character models are super cringe. Specialists talking is cringe.

It's 2021 and this is a billion dollar franchise. No excuse not to have custom character creation. Pretty ridiculous that I have to play as Sundance if I wanna wingsuit.

I love the action, multiple front battlefield areas. I can't play any of the old battlefield games now as their play style and map size feels so dated.

I'm not sure if weakening vehicle auto cannons are what the game needs. As is, vehicles are kind of weak due to the small amount to infantry ratio. Enemies seem to take more hits from the MG as well. Outside of the MBTs, the amount of heavy anti infantry vehicles is just missing. There is nothing that fills the role of the IFVs from BF3/4. Those things could shoot across large distances and easily kill people with their auto cannons. With the amount of infantry and without a proper replacement, vehicle play and anti infantry is just off balance wise.

I finally got into another game after searching for about 15 minutes.

Weapons need to be more accurate. Even the DMR is very inaccurate. Weapon damaged needs to be fixed. I kill people more quickly with my pistol than I do my rifle.

Can you make vehicle zoom click instead of hold?

They have to lower the vehicle damage because lack of cover.
Better map design can keep vehicle weapon power realistic.

Depends on the map. Generally the ranges don't seem to be that much larger. In Silkroad in BF4 you could sit atop of the rocky mountain area and shoot into the dunes and kill snipers/spotters easily in the IFV. Or the opposite. Drive up a dune, shoot those people just sitting prone.

I've only played the India map, the rocket map, and the Korea map (for about 3 minutes). So I'm not sure how the rest play. At this point I'm not sure if I'll ever get into a game on those maps.

On Discarded during Breakthrough, there's no cover.
With limited vehicles or after a squad wipe, you have to run all the way to the objective.

Just to make it to the objective alive is an accomplishment.

I agree with you, but they kinda always do this because of simple metrics: most players are infantry-only, and so if infantry players get stomped by vehicles or air then it's upsetting their bread and butter part of the playerbase.

Yes the whole point of asymmetrical warfare and force multiplier vehicles/air is to be extra powerful, and I like nothing more than killfarming infantry filth, but I can understand the business POV.

FWIW, in the BF3 days, Alan Kertz at DICE - the weapon and vehicle balance guy at the time - basically admitted to this when people raged about progressive nerfs to vehicles/air; Patrick Sonderland also mentioned in an interview the need to not alienate infantry focused players.

Isn't that part of the gameplay? I want to be immersed in a semi-believable battle, not the clone wars. If I hop into a truck and look around to see 3 other players that are identical, it *breaks the immersion*. At least when it was generic soldiers it was realistic, not random token subsections of society that don't belong in *a battle*. If I got into the vehicle and saw 3 real soldiers and one elderly woman, I'd at least have some variety that *doesn't break the immersion*.

I do agree that it's odd we can't have decent character customization in 2021. If we can't have that, i'd rather just have masked generic people rather than these idiotic cartoons.

They figured out how to make it work in BF3/4, by having TDM and Domination. Everyone was happy. And Some of the maps, again like Silk Road, had parts that were semi sealed off for infantry. The base in the center with sand bag walls worked great to keep a semi enclosed and semi protected infantry area.

Nothing good comes from character customization. Besides, it is an FPS. You don't see your character anyways.

Exactly. You can have different maps that cater to different types of players. Which is also why 2042 sucks donkey not having a server browser. You can't even choose what map you'd like to play.

1942 was the perfect example of this. Want nothing but air combat? Coral sea. Want a focus on air combat with naval & infantry? Wake island, etc. Want mostly nothing but infantry? D-Day map, etc.

So if i'm in the mood for nothing but air combat i'll just find me a 24/7 coral sea server and have a blast.

Can't do that in 2042, and the maps suck anyways.

This isn't difficult, but this is what happens when people that don't give a shit about Battlefield, let alone FPS games in general, are in charge of making the games. They're clueless. Basic shit just flys over their heads, and then they blame the players for complaining.

Yeah this is very odd especially when they've done it multiple times in the past. And forgetting to add a server browser makes zero sense. I'm not sure what value that is supposed to add. Battlefield is known for having a good server browser. To go from that to nothing is just odd.

I literally fight armies of Sundance characters. It's Sundance2042. I'm surprised no one else notices this. It's freaking annoying as hell.

That stupid clown world physics wing suit needs a serious nutf.

like levelcap said near the end of his review, the maps have no compartmentalization
That's another thing. I'll finally win a firefight just to get sniped, DMR'd or ran over. You are being looked at all the time. If they enabled the scoreboard, people will rage quit because there's no way you can measure your skill in this game. In BF3, we had SPM, world divisions, and a skill scale in Battlelog. If you're sniped, blown up or ran over constantly, the K/D ratio will never tell what really happened during the match.

Bf1942 was epic for 2002 times

Desert combat mod was amazing

BF2....i did not like at all.

Bad company was for children

BF3 was the Epoc of the series.

BF4 Was a rehash money grab

BF1 is where it all started to go down hill

BFV is full of cheaters and was hilarious to see female Asian nazi pilots screaming all over the battlefield

2042 I'm enjoying...has a lot of those only in bf moments I have not see since bf3. Currently my favorite BF to play despite horrendous specialist selection models....dare u say these character models are even stupider than bf1 and v combined

I agree. I hit a attack chopper with the rocket last night from so far. it was epic. this is the only game that I've wanted to turn on that nvidia setting that records kills. and you cant. also, flying around in the little bird doing rocket strafes with a ton of friendlys and enemies under you looks and feels awesome

todays patch is a bit better. almost no rubber banding while flying. hit reg feels great to me. audio sounds more 3D. this is the last update till dice comes back from vacation jan 15. I want cpu optimization and some map changes like buildings added.

I have nothing against people taking vacations but 5-6 weeks right after launching a mess doesn't sit well with me. They can take a short Christmas break then get back to it. Take your extra long time off in spring after you get some fixes in.

The game is garbage anyways. If it's ever good it won't be for another 1-2 years minimum. It's not the workers fault that management made awful design decisions.

Slam head first into a rooftop at 50 MPH, then detonate three C5 charges a couple of feet away, and live. BF2042 is a cheeseball clown game.

if you want to spawn a tank on a roof top, you deserve that. good balance. never heard anyone say, man, these wing suits are lame. wish they weren't in the game.

The wing suits are lame, wish they weren't in the game. If they did it with a shred of realism, I'd have no qualms with it. But in its current implementation, they've basically put a super-hero in the game. The physics and capability of the suit play are laughable, so much so half the characters on the map at any given time are playing Sundance. Of course hardly anyone is going to complain, they'd rather keep the overpowered and imbalanced.

BF traditionally has kept the gimmicks down, but apparently now the floodgates are open.

Gotta say the gun master mode running in Portal right now is pretty fun. A lot of it is luck, get unlucky with spawns a couple lives in a row and it's hard to catch up but still fun. I almost won the last round but someone got the last kill right before me :(
