Battlefield 2042

looks awesome, the movement speed doesn't look fast at all. so the beta is only 2 days long?
 
If you have Game Pass for PC, you can get early access to the beta on October 6 through EA Play. Note that in the tweet below it mentions Ultimate, but only console owners need an Ultimate subscription to get EA Play.

I assume 3rd party pre-orders (GMG, etc.) don't get early access?

It will be available through all platforms (Origin, EA Desktop, Steam, Epic). The Game Pass app launches EA Desktop, so that is where you'll get it if you use your Game Pass subscription. 3rd party sellers should send you a pre-order key that gives you access to the beta. If you didn't get one you would have to contact the place you preordered the game from.

The preload begins October 5 at 0700 UTC/0300 EDT/0000 PDT.

Least my internet is fast enough people are complaing about CPU specs being too high.

Well that is disappointing. Instead we'll see text full of "****" now. I know in CoD it filters non-offensive words to often.

And da fuq (getting in the habit to get around censored chat) does this have to do with Battlefield?

Yup, amazes me how dice think thats fine yet the chat blocks any attempt at a swear word. We're allowed to hear characters randomly say it but god forbid someone types it!

the way dice sees it they are censoring chat to keep people positive toward each other. there's no way for dice to know if someone says in chat "we're getting our ass kicked" versus, "your score sucks ass". if a grenade is thrown at your feet and your character is like oh fuck you're not going to really be offended by that unless you're offended by swearing in general. which if you are you wouldn't have bought the game due to the ESRB rating. they dont want people bitching at each other basically.

Shit talking has been part and parcel of online gaming for years, they would be as well disabling text chat if this is the direction theyre going. Not like anything constructive comes through it anyway besides tards typing "ez" at every opportunity.

I've seen all kinds of stuff in bf5 chat. now that we have custom portal servers, communitys might develop so chat may be more about saying hi to people you recognize. like it was in the old days.

In the old days you could write anything, and if the other person didn't like it they could join another server...or God forbid they could rent their own server and enforce their own censorship. And if people didn't like that new server's censorship they could go back to other servers where they were more comfortable.

Literally a solution for everyone, except it didn't maximize profits and it may have offended some people with purple hair.

I assume they'll remove it from the game voice acting as well. It isn't necessary but it fits as long as it isn't excessive. BF3/4 did it right. It is a game that is rated M, I expect some swearing. I don't mind people using it in chat. Yes insulting people over chat is fine, typically nothing comes of it.

I just don't understand murder porn shows like The Walking Dead having zero "curse words" and games depicting the shooting and stabbing of women taking similar actions. Apparently depictions of murder and being able to do so in a simulation is far more palatable than saying "fuck".
 
I say WGA* about text chat curse words being ******* censored. Most of it - 95% is bitching and whining by bad players anyway. My patience for that is zero. And the game having voiceovers with profanity doesnt mean its hypocritical, because the voiceovers are not trying to be an energy vampire like some little shit in text chat complaining or trolling for responses.

As someone that's frittered away more hundreds of hours of precious time on BF games than is probably even healthy, I say you're better off just leaving chat box disabled - you should be too busy murdering anyway. A slow steady trickle of toxic chat over many hours can be exhausting and make you feel just angry and annoyed when you finally stop playing, and without even realizing why. Especially if you're prone to getting sucked in to flame wars.

true but the argument is people don't want to be censored. and for people who don't want to see the chat they can hide it, I think in bf5 you can hide it with the H key. I don't really care in this case but I lean toward not letting others decide what I see and hear in life.

This. Removing community servers was the most self destructive thing they could have done. Ironically because of people who didn't like following rules and thought it unfair that some other player could kick or ban therm for being a shithead.

Might be the first battlefield I opt out of since hardline. Those cpu requirements seem drunk.

If you're just opting out because of the published requirements you just may be the drunk one. From what I gather you just need at least a 4 thread CPU made in the last 7 years. A CPU made within the last 7 years is always a good general guideline to follow.
 
cpu requirements make sense. warzone struggles with a cpu that has less than 4 cores, and that game is a BR with 150 players at the start of a match. btw, you'll see about a 20 fps boost going from a 4 core cpu to a 6 core one. battlefield on the other hand will have 120 players the whole match.

I think they will have 64 player servers though so just stick to those if 120 is too much.

BF has greatly benefited from 8 threads for a while. My 1080ti choked with BF1 until I stepped up from 4/4.
 
I got the 10 core 20 threads 10850k for this game for the for the minutes I play the beta. I wasnt sure if my Coffee Lake would be good enough it might have been. I wonder if the Rocket Lake chip will be better than my Comet Lake chip. Usually these games are optimized like the only game out there that uses more than a single core.
