My son just played the dlc in about 2 hours, maybe. Is that sizeable?
He found most of the secrets, he’s just fast at killing everything, quick switching weapons. I’m too old, lol.I hear there are 3 levels but each one is much bigger then anything in the base game...so 2 hours sounds short unless he was rushing through...
I hear they ramped everything up to 11...I'm glad id Software didn't dumb it down or lower the difficulty to cater to the people complaining that it was too different from Doom 2016
The best demons in Doom reward technique. You can blast a Cacodemon in the face with a shotgun until it explodes, but if you manage to lob a grenade in its gob, you'll be rewarded with a quick, efficient kill. The same goes for Pinky: there's nothing wrong with unleashing the quad-barrel chaingun into him while he charges at you, but if you're quick with a juke you can get behind him and kill him easily by shooting his tail.
The enemies introduced The Ancient Gods don't share these qualities. Instead, they are designed like marauders: tiny attack windows that require specific weapons to counter.
Big meh. More stupid platforming, more "fodder" enemies which only exist to feed "glory" kills etc. This isn't really fun anymore.
This quote (from here) sums up perfectly what is wrong with "Doom" Eternal and this DLC:
That's great.I love it!...Bring on the Challenge!...as soon as I build my new rig I'm all over this DLC
That's great.
Except I don't understand what you mean by "challenge". It's not really hard, it's annoying and tedious for a DOOM game.
So I finally got Doom Eternal... I set my max i'd pay to $20 and isthereanydeal popped up with like $17 from Gamebillet so I jumped on it. I almost immediately regretted it because all the sale prices were for the Bethesda DRM so I had to install ANOTHER fucking launcher just for Bethesda titles which really annoyed me and I should have paid more attention...
That being said I played the first hour of Eternal and I quite like it. Doom 2016 was good, but I am still one of those oddballs that likes Doom 3 the most out of all the Doom games I played. That being said Eternal to me feels right in a lot of places... the graphics and the incredible detail put into the environments is amazing. When I started and saw that enormous demon walking past it gave me an awesome sense of scale. The little details in the environments from the very start were really awesome and I feel like a LOT of people due to the pace of the game probably run right past a lot of the cool shit to see like dead people in the rubble, crushed buses, the metro station, and I just found myself really taking my time while playing and exploring the environments because it is SO detailed that's it's a joy just walking around and wondering if I can get up there and just looking at the details of everything... you can tell they REALLY put a lot of attention into the environmental details and it's surprising in a game like this where I would see gameplay of people jumping around maps like Spiderman to see such detail.
Anyway another positive i've experienced in my first hour of playing is the sound design. I'm not talking about the music, but rather the environmental sounds, the sounds of the guns especially are throaty and insanely satisfying from the sound of switching weapon mods to the sound of that automatic assault rifle thing you pick up... it's just insanely heavy-sounding and satisfying. The coolest moment was in the beginning starting off and wondering why everything was vibrating and shaking only to come out and see a demon that eclipses you by a million times in height and size it was just super cool. The intro sequence sound of everything going on on Earth... the game really makes you feel like Earth has been taken over. Excellent sound design.
One last thing I will mention here that is a REAL negative thus-far is that the game seems to want you to play a certain way. Meaning that I find it incredibly annoying that I can only hold 16 shotgun shells. I can for some reason hold a insanely heavy automatic cannon, but I can't pocket more than 16 shotgun shells for a shotgun that has a full-auto mode? I find myself constantly having to use the chainsaw to get more ammo. It doesn't seem to be an option or rare occurrence like it was in Doom 2016 to have to use the shotgun... it now seems like you HAVE to use the chainsaw and regularly if you want to survive as well as having to do glory kills because otherwise my health will dwindle. I don't like glory kills and I always avoided them in Doom 2016 and I always turned off the glowing effect around enemies b/c that seemed too cartoony. In Eternal I turned off that glow as well as well as turned the loot drop from chainsaw kills and glory kills to near zero b/c that was too cartoony as well. There are ammo drops and health drops, but without a doubt this game was designed with the use of the chainsaw in mind considering fuel regenerates on it's own over time albeit slowly. I don't like that. I grew really annoyed with the sound of me constantly running out of ammo... I just want to run around and shoot and have fun, but the fact that I am HAVING to use to shotgun to replenish ammo that is always running short in a game you are constantly shooting in I think is a massive misstep.
I am liking the experience overall and will be playing more in the days to come, but the ammo situation really bugs me and while it adds another layer of complexity to the combat it seems to take away from the enjoyment that comes with shooting to begin with.
That's more or less how I feel. I actually like the game EXCEPT the weapon/ammo/saw mechanics. I don't mind the platforming bits really. I love the scale of it (like you mentioned), and all of id's usual visual touches. It's actually REALLY good in most respects. I absolutely HATE how I can't play with the weapons I want when I want. That part feels completely forced, and no matter how many times people tell me I should just get used to it, or that I'm the one that's wrong, it does NOT feel like Doom. Otherwise, it's pretty cool.
Doom Eternal comes to Xbox Game Pass for PC on December 3
New Master Level: Super Gore Nest - Available Now
Yeah... this really annoyed me because they released Eternal on Xbox Game Pass like last month and I said i'd hold off on playing it b/c I want to play it on PC since I can't play FPS games on a controller. So I bought it on sale recently and like a day or two later it's announced that Eternal is coming to PC Game Pass... like wtf why couldn't they release Eternal on Game Pass Xbox and PC simultaneously since I have Game Pass ultimate?
So I bought Eternal on sale a few weeks ago.
I’ve enjoyed Doom since the 90s. I’m REALLY trying to like Eternal, but the closed in courtyard fights is annoying the snot out of me.
1st playthrough -> first 1/3, aggravating, 2nd 1/3 blissful, last 1/3, started to get boring. So I bought Eternal on sale a few weeks ago.

I bought it on sale - I am still not liking the extremely limited ammo capacity which forces you to use the chainsaw, but otherwise it's a fun game...
Yeah, I am finding that out. At least you can upgrade your capacity for those things.get used to it...it's an inherent part of the gameplay loop...you will ALWAYS need to use the chainsaw for Ammo, flame belch for Armor and Glory Kills for Health
Yeah, I am finding that out. At least you can upgrade your capacity for those things.
Just completed a Slayer Gate, that was pretty crazy.
I noticed this is becoming more of a habit from publishers during sales these days and it's really frustrating. Some shenanigans were also pulled on the Microsoft Store over Christmas where only the base games were on sale for the big sale period and then they put the DLC on sale in a separate promotion 2 weeks later.I wanted to get the DLC during the recent Steam sale but only the base game was on sale and not the DLC or Season Pass...
If I remember correctly I fixed it by disabling V-Sync in the NVCP and enabling it in-game. I'll have to check and make sure. It is one of the few games where I have experienced conflict between the two settings.GMG is selling this cheap so I took a shot. I am having the freezing issue that a lot of people seemed to never fully figure out. Anyone got anything on that or am I headed for a refund? I liked the 5 minutes or so that I got to play it.

Yes, I was getting crashes with all V-Sync disabled while G-SYNC was still enabled. For some reason the game was not happy with me unless I used its form of V-Sync. It's a CPU-related issue, not GPU.Even if I have G sync and all that? I'm playing now after a few mild adjustments. I guess I'll do that next if I have to. I'm stunned at the performance I'm getting on this considering I'm at 4K and have some fairly high settings. My FPS's are sick. (RTX3080)
