Thermaltake Core P3 Wall-Mounted Chassis Review - The Thermaltake Core P3 chassis can be mounted standing, on its side, or directly to the wall. The open design allows you to see all the components in your system easily and the wall-mount option allows you to place your system in view like a work of art. All of these options come in at an easy-on-the-wallet price as well.
 
I think it's hilarious that the sound level test was stated to be 'silent' because their were no case fans in the case or anything else for that matter......what about with everything fully installed.....CPU fans, and all vid cards? How does it fare sound wise with a radiator?
 
I agree there should have been sound levels with the equipment installed and just saying the sound levels could vary greatly depending on what you decide to install. So do you have to take the entire case off the wall to get at the HD's? How hard is that? Also what are people using to mount it since no hardware is provided? Without going to Google I'm assuming its an add on purchase from TT.
 
All of our case reviews include sound testing on products as they come from the factory. If a case has incredibly loud fans, we want you to know that. Silent fans? We want you to know that too. No fans? Ditto.

What we do not do is add fans (or remove fans) for sound testing. Should we add quiet fans for favorable results? Should we use the loudest fans we can find? Should we only use fans made by the manufacturer? How many fans should we add? So on and so forth. Also, with the literally millions of hardware configurations out there, attempting to do sound testing on all of them would be impossible.

Again, this is why we test products as they come from the factory.
 
It actually looks pretty decent even with an air cooler installed, might have to think on this if I ever replace my massive full tower.
 
I saw one of these the other day at my local Altex and was intrigued by it. Now you guys do a review of it and I'm thinking, hmmm, these guys can read minds now!!

I think it would be pretty sweet to have it hanging on the wall, totally out of the way and you can just blow it out in place periodically without having to take it apart.

South Texas is one dusty place.

As stated, the case mounts to the wall using the same wall mounting hardware you would use for a flat screen TV. It is not included with the purchase but the wall mount we used in the article was a $9.99 unit from Amazon. Removing your system from the wall is simple, you just lift straight up (the same as if you were removing your TV from the wall).

Thanks for the info, I've should have figured it would be something like that or I should read with more reading comprehension :)

A wall mounted PC is intriguing, gets it up off the desk and on display. If I had an office with a door I'd consider it, my cats would either hurt the PC or themselves if I had this.

Well, this one can be used wall-mounted as one option. But it also works well when you use the included feet and use it like a normal tower. Or you can use the other set of feet and sit it horizontally like a test bench.

Considering how many of the bigger P5's they've sold, there's definitely a market for the case. That being said I'm sure only a small fraction of the people who buy it will actually wall-mount it.
 
Kyle, did you guys see if an eATX MB would fit on it? I know the specs say only an ATX, but some folks on another forum have stated it will. Since you have one on hand I was wondering if you guys tried it to see if it would.
 
An E-ATX board is so wide it would cover all the cable pass-through holes in the motherboard tray. Also, there are no standoffs to support the motherboard on the far right hand side.
 
I have heard that the Core P5 and Core P3 Riser cable is a constant problem where it needs to be RMA'd almost right out of the box. I am interested in this case but I have not seen Thermaltake take any action about the cable other then RMA it. They have not denied or confirmed the issue.

I see a riser cable is for sale at $30.00 on their site. PCI-e X16 Riser Cable | ttpremium

My main question would be is this the same cable in the box or is this a upgraded version and we have to pay extra to get a stable version.

Did you guys have any issues at all with the riser cable?

It is really really loud if you put really really loud fans in it. It is really really quiet if you put really really quiet fans in it.
 
Anyone else check the timestamp on when this was posted after seeing a GTX 280/ 1366 combo? Makes sense (and its stated why, all that glorious vintage heat), just was like "wait, is this linking to the wrong article?"
 
They should make a tempered glass version, I'm sure it would sell.

I've read from a few owners who have had some issues with the riser card and have bought better ones. They don't seem to cost very much so if I were going this route I'd probably pick up a better unit.

What do you mean "as if there's a market for it?"

I own a P5 (the big version) and I think it's really cool. I'm presently full up on computer cases, but I'd totally buy a Core P3 if I were in the market.

Shortly after they released the P5, Thermaltake realized they'd screwed up and came up with a revised riser cable design that fixes most of the problems folks had with the original. I would strongly suspect that the P3, being released a year or more later, comes with the revised one.

That in mind, I'd test with the included cable before buying another. The revised one was definitely an improvement over the original that came with my P5.

Market for tempered glass panel instead of acrylic.

That's good to know, yes if they have fixed it on the P5 I'm sure they did the same on the P3.
 
i'm working on a build with a P3 right now. mGPU cabling is a challenge with 4 cables. also my case (the "SE") didn't come with the little support piece that goes between your power supply and horizontal tray when you mount your gpu up-right. huh. everything else has a high quality feel to it. rolled edges everywhere, and the metal bars that hold up the side panel are deceptively heavy.

The P5 isn't so bad. You just blow it out with an air compressor every once in while, and then suck up all the dust with a vacuum cleaner.

The Acrylic panel is kind of a pain in the ass, as you have to be super careful not to scratch it.

Have you thought of having a custom tempered glass panel made? I think that is something I would investigate if I could use this case.

I considered it, but decided not to worry about it for now when I found out that the glass panel would cost $200, which seems excessive.

If I ever actually scratch the heck out of the acrylic panel, I'll consider it more seriously, although I think the real answer is to just remove the panel and standoffs completely.

Also, my P5 sags a little when hung on the wall. This isn't the end of the world, but given how heavy tempered glass is, it would definitely not make things better in that regard.
 
Wow $200 yeah I wouldn't do it either then. Interesting that you are getting sag, yes a Glass panel hanging out at the end of the rods would not help.
